3. Raise awareness
If you employ other people, you have a responsibility to ensure that they are also fully aware of disability issues.
There are plenty of organisations and groups of people who provide advice and support with disability awareness training. There is also a great deal of information already available on the internet and in other formats.
There are many ways that you can help raise awareness of these issues both for yourself and other people you work with, or employ.
Decide what training you need and make a plan to provide it. People with learning disabilities can help with this training.
As there are now laws which mean service providers need to make "reasonable adjustments" to accommodate the needs of people with a learning disability, it is important to find out what these needs are.
Many people still don't understand what a learning disability is. Make it your business to understand this client group.
